Just struggled through this myself so wanted to share for anyone else who encounters the issue. Neat for mac software. In macOS Sierra, Apple dropped support for the (admittedly obsolete) VPN PPTP protocol. Unfortunately, for some companies this is the only method available to connect to a VPN. Google didn't give me a clear solution to begin with, it looked like there were only paid VPN clients available to allow you to connect to VPN PPTP on Sierra.
