Hi community, I'm using an MBPr 15' late 2013 running OSX 10.9. My company uses an Ricoh Aficio MP C3002 network based printer. With 'Printers and scanners' it was quite easy to find and install the Ricoh. After this I ran Software update and installed the latestt printer from the Apple store. And now it got weird: the printer showed up, was connected and startet the jobs. But nothing was printed. Text free app for mac.

Looking in the job-list I saw these jobs with my user id shown as aborted. Using Terminal I pinged the Ricoh - worked flawless. Our network ist Exchange Server 2003-based, the Ricoh is directly connected to the network. Prior to the MBP my machine was an quite antique windows machine connected to the same network. At home I use a Brother network printer which works fine (and prints so far). Any ideas what could be wrong?

Help would be very much appreciated. With regards to the printer protocol, you mentioned that 'it was easy to find'. To see a printer in the Default view of the Add printer window, the printer has to support an advertising protocol like Bonjour. So if you did add the printer this way, then the protocol is determined by settings in the printer. If you wanted to add the printer manually, by selecting IP and then the HP Jetdirect-Socket protocol, you can then enter the IP address of the Ricoh and the supporting driver in the Use menu. Or, instead of selecting the Ricoh in the Use menu, you could select the Generic Postscript driver that is included with 10.9.

If this prints then you can remove this printer and add again, this time selecting the Ricoh driver. With 'easy to find' I meant the printer as such via IP.

Protol was LPD by default, other protocols did not work as well with the Ricoh PS driver. Meanwhile I did a little research. The Problem seems to be that our Ricoh came without Postscript option. If I use the Generic PCL driver that came with my Mac at least I can print. But I don't have any options. Thats bad, because this is a colour printer and our default in the company ist bw-printing for holding printing costs low. I found some hints on open printing at Linuxfoundation.org but have no inkling how to install these drivers or ppd packages.

If the Ricoh does not have the PS option then regardless of what protocol you selected, the Ricoh PS driver would not have worked. As you have found, there is the pxlmono package from the Linux foundation that will let you print in colour. And you need to install the Foomatic and Ghostscript packages with the pxlmono package in order for it to work. If the company prefers you to print in B/W to reduce costs, then the Generic PCL laser driver will do the job fine. One thing to note with this driver is that it is defaulted to 300dpi resolution, but you can change this via the Printer Features menu. Back again.unfortunately with bad news. OK - that means no such workaround for OSX 10.9 and the newer Ricohs without PS3. Instead we had to install the Ricoh under Windows 7 prof/Parallels 9. Works fine since the Win drivers all are PCL.

It's a shame that a printer as expensive as the Ricoh (ca. € 3500) comes without PS3, you have to buy the option for another €600!!! Back at home I use a Brother network printer for €99 which works just fine with PS3. Nothing I do—connecting via Bonjour, USB, or via the network—seems to matter.

It adds the printer no problem, I click Print, the printer (MP C4502) makes some noises and then cancels the job. I tried every install option and installing the RICOH drivers for Mac, but it didn't make a difference. The only option I really have is to use the generic PCL driver, which lets me print, but not using Color or any of the advanced printing options like two-sided printing.
